Wow, seriously, where has the summer gone? It has its time just like every other season, but why does it seem so short?! Oh, right...I live in Seattle. It's hard to believe I am already leafing through the September issues and amassing my fall lust list.

Let's begin, shall we?

I've been eyeing this skirt from etsy seller Pyxus Passion Project for some time. It has everything my figure needs in a skirt: small waist, a-line cut, and knee-length.

Just when I was weaning myself off my TOMS adoration, they had to go and release a new line for fall. I feel weak at how I love these Scottish Houndstooth classics. It is a good thing they are sold out in my size.

I present to you my version of the perfect dress (note the similar silhouette to Julia Robert's horse-racing dress in Pretty Woman. That movie influenced my sense of style more than I care to admit.) Feminine, modest, breezy, understated, and a gorgeous fall color.

I love French Connection's Winter Bex Beads Top in Vine Red. I'm on a serious eagle-eye search for gorgeous blouses. This one will certainly do!

Essie has had the market on affordable nail-polish for some time now, but I am sitting up and paying attention with this "power-clutch" color they describe as a "striking rich, deep gray-green). I'll take all of the fall 2011 collection, please.

If I could have just one thing for fall, no matter the price, it would be this green Mulberry dress. I have nothing in this color and I cannot tell you how much I enjoy pleats. It's so prep-school chic. This advertisement also happens to be my fall favorite.

EmersonMade has been a long-time favorite of mine; these Stretch BlueBells are on-trend, but made from a true vintage pattern.

It's time for a statement-makin' dress, ladies (and gent(s)?)! I spotted this in Lucky Magazine, and even found the blogger who mentioned and wore the dress, but alas - I cannot find the actual dress anywhere. Nonetheless, I'm looking sharp for a subtle polka-dot print, 60s cut dress for all of my fall outings to jazz clubs and symphonies and swing dances. I guess I better start going to more jazz clubs, symphonies, and swing dances.

I hope you feel the permission to update your style this fall, even in one small way.

In Rainbows

I'm doing a little wedding photography research and came across this magnificent array of colors. I can't help but think that if UmberDove ever re-did her wedding, she would have rainbow bridesmaids. As one of those self-appointed bride-maidens, I'll take the orange, thank you very much. And you can bet your momma's life I'd be rockin' that rainbow eyeshadow.

And that got me to thinking what I might do differently if I had a chance to redesign my wedding now, almost 9 years later. The venue, the reception, the color scheme, the flowers, and the photography - just for starters.

And you? What would you change, chickadees?

Phew. Between waking up late and a four-car accident on one of the worst highways in North America, this morning kicked me around something fierce. Thank you, Modcloth...for easing the eyes into Thursday. The mister is taking me away for our (postponed) anniversary trip next weekend, and I'm dreaming about a new cocktail dress for the event.

Add these completely impractical heels (in gray), and I'm feeling just about recovered.

You could say that I've had a strong sense of personal style since I was a child. This was highly influenced by my two older sisters...but despite growing up with zero clothing budget, I managed to carve out a signature style. I have no problem putting together an outfit and relish any chance to express myself in that regard.

That being said, it wasn't until probably 3 years ago that I started trying to really discover my personal aesthetic as it related to interior design and decor. My husband is a devoted minimalist mixed with vintage, and our home reflected that alone, which I was fine with until I wanted something a bit more "me." Which, by the way, is simply NOT minimal (well, I am minimal but I've defined it as not NOTHING, but a small amount of things I love). I started following design blogs and asking friends (two of which used to be in interior design) about feng shui, decor, and various stylistc choices in order to find out what I loved.

My voice began to ring clear, so I started acquiring peices that were very me. I like to call it Victorian/Modern. Joel was a very good sport about it all, but now we are realizing that my editing eye is really rather underdevelped. I now have WAY too much of what I love and no talent at arranging it. SOOO, I am back to the drawing board of design. I'm trying to collect images of edited rooms that I still really love. The key is to express myself (and my husband) as best we can while still leaving enough space for the eyes to rest and for the energy to flow.

Phew.

That was a really long way to say that
I love this room.

The bookshelves are awesome, and I love the way the living room contains darker (heavy even) pieces, but because of the editing and arrangement, really cozify all the white walls.

I am pretty excited about two literary movies coming out soon.

A new adaptation of "Jane Eyre" with Mia Wasikowska as Jane.

I have seen SEVERAL attempts, including one with Charlotte Gainsbourg...which changes the story with horrendous blasphemousness AND one with Anna Paquin which is beyond boring). Focus Features is the production company and pretty reliably great, so I am justifiably hopeful.

It was just decided that Carey Mulligan will be playing Daisy Buchanan in Baz Luhrmann's new adaptation of "The Great Gatsby" (Leo will be playing Gatsby). Love all of the names listed above, so of course I'll be seeing that! (Though I admit to being dubious that anyone can out-perform Mia Farrow from the 1974 version).

Just saw this on the Best of Pinterest Board I follow and thought it was incredibly facscinating.

The artist, Katie Lewis, mapped her bodily sensations with pencil, thread, and pins.

"Each section of the grid on the wall is correlated with a different part of the body. Every time she felt a sensation in a particular area on her body, she documented the feeling onto the corresponding place on the grid with a pin and the date."

I wave these Tibetan prayer flags all over her from what feels like two zillion miles away.

Whatever divine or cosmic plea you make to whomever, I hope you'll take a moment and think of her.

"raditionally, prayer flags are used to promote peace, compassion, strength, and wisdom. The flags do not carry prayers to 'gods,' a common misconception; rather, the Tibetans believe the prayers and mantras will be blown by the wind to spread the good will and compassion into all pervading space. By hanging flags in high places the "Wind Horse" will carry the blessings depicted on the flags to all beings. As wind passes over the surface of the flags which are sensitive to the slightest movement of the wind, the air is purified and sanctified by the Mantras.

Just as life moves on and is replaced by new life, Tibetans renew their hopes for the world by continually mounting new flags alongside the old. Fashion Friday: Fall Lust

It came this week. It's only a matter of time before THIS follows suit. I've been trying to keep it at bay, this obsession with fall occurring well before summer is actually over, but alas...this weekend it will overtake me. I'm headed to the Washington coast for family vacation, but I'll be using a lot of my time to catch up on magazines. No doubt, I will return next week completely entrenched in my annual fall lust.

Harper's Bazaar has cast Jennifer Aniston as Barbra Streisand; I'm dubious, but eager to check it out.

It's part of their Hidden World of Girls project, and I think it's just remarkably beautiful. The entry is accompanied by a write-up by the author years later. I know Fridays are supposed to be this energetic celebration of freedom, but even when I was working a traditional job, I found that I was way too tired to go out. Instead, Friday nights became synonymous with a quiet night at home with a glass of wine and a movie. This week has been so busy, so tonight, I'm making some chicken cacciatore and pouring a big glass of red. Hopefully, this weekend, we'll catch a World Cup game (we don't have cable) and maybe gather with friends for Seattle's Gay Pride Week. Have a good one!

Why do I do this to myself? I was just hanging out on the TOMS website checking out their new wedges, and I ran into these two delcious summer releases. That color is just too you to pass up and that first shoe is just too "Newsies" for me not to wearing. While we are at it, I'll take a pair of black wedges and orange/white striped wedges, thank you very much.

holding dainty glasses filled with Chartreuse

wearing proper ladies' hats

gabbing 'til the sun sets in the West.

Citrus lemon velvet, solid carved wood, springs that bounce. Available here and now, in my little Northern coastal town for song and a dance. I'll even help you load it in the van.

These vintage stores will be my downfall. Sigh. At least I know you'll fall with me.

Then I remembered that 1) I don't have $2400 to spend on a couch and 2) I live in a double wide and THIS couch in a trailer might just be too much juxtaposition for me...though we know how I love paradox in design. In celebration of all things Mother Earth, I recently indulged in a pair of TOMS. Besides its "ugly chic" look, one of the coolest things about TOMS is their policy for getting shoes to kids around the world. For every pair of TOMS purchased, one child receives a pair of shoes. I wish I could say that's why I wanted them.

I finally broke down and ordered the navy pair.

I had NO IDEA they were so comfortable...

they even had my quirky size (9.5 wide), and they have arch support.

Now I want one in Olive, White, Ash and Red...

Feel Good Activity: Snoqualmie Falls, Washington.

These last few weeks have been rough for a good many people in my life. One of those lovely people was instructed by her therapist to engage in a "feel good" activity. What is one thing that you can spend five minutes a day doing that can provide you with positive thought and peace? Her answer was looking at the ocean, or really any body of water. She even narrowed it down to which body of water, and decided that Snoqualmie Falls in Snoqualmie,Washington held a special place in her soul. We decided we needed to find a good picture of the falls to contemplate daily. I immedately jumped on flickr...and here are a few of my favorites.

This is also a sneaky manipulation to try to remind Kelly of Washington.

Excuse the sentimentality of this post, but one of my very best friends moved to California this week and is also celebrating her 30th birthday this weekend. Many of you know that I've had some life-changing circumstances relocate me for a small time, which prevented me from spending the remaining weeks of Kelly's time in Washington with her and Brad.

It's a tad long, so I suggest you whip up a latte or gin & tonic (heavy on the lime, Kelly style) and sit for a bit.

The newly opened Banyan Tree Hotel in Mexico looks like a PERFECT Acapulco retreat.

Each villa comes with a personal pool.

Would LOVE to stay at the Dean Street Townhouse in historic London.

I am completely swayed by the bathtub in the room.
